UK wave period forecast. Wave period is the time between successive waves/pulses(really
pulses of swell as wave period is something we monitor in open water where waves are not breaking but the swell is travelling), it is arguably the most important factor that infulences the quality of surf which will arrive at the coast.
This wave period chart below give a good indication of the wave period in the North Atlantic for the next week. Basically the greater the wave period the more organised and cleaner the swell will be, which means the quality of the surf will be better. Which will result in a better session for you!
What we are looking for is wave periods of 10secs plus! The white arrows indicate the wind direction. To learn more about where waves come from check out how waves work. |
